Secrets of Avigdor Lieberman's Age

Deputy Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Netanyahu’s coalition government, Avigdor Lieberman – born 5 June 1958 in the former Soviet Union – is coming to the end of the most powerful of all ages, 52 – a Leo/Leo combination; and in June 2010 he will move from an incredibly powerful, proud and authoritarian persona into one that is less megalomaniacal and more analytical.

At 52 he feels so powerful, so big, so superior and so important that when he asks for what he wants, he will very likely get it. He won’t stand for any nonsense from anyone, and will move on rather than wasting his time confronting someone of lesser value than himself (which is just about everybody!). He walks the talk and makes a great impression. He is likely to derive ego satisfaction from creative pursuits at 52. He will be exceptionally good at problem solving, and rolling up his sleeves, doing what needs to be done and getting others to bend to his will.

At 52 it's time to write that book, paint that portrait, climb that mountain or do anything that requires a powerful ego centered on doing rather than talking. He will be like the 4-year old at kindergarten, assiduously building magnificent towers out of blocks (or drawing up plans to build 1,600 new homes for Israelis in Ramat Shlomo, East Jerusalem?); or putting together a complicated jigsaw puzzle (the Israeli-Palestinian borders?).

He has gained incredible confidence and power and believes that there's nothing he can't do. And he’s right. The 52-year old is an 'in charge' person. He takes on tremendous responsibilities and if he slips up he will just pick himself up, brush himself off and carry on without looking back (at the dead bodies and broken promises?).

At 52, it's a year to take on anything that requires total exercise of ego. The world's your oyster at 52, go for it. The lesson to be learned this year is to grab the opportunities that present themselves to you. Because it's a year in which you'll be absorbed in creative pursuits - for your ego gratification, not anybody else's - you will be seen as a benign figure, not a threat, and people will be attracted to you. Power does have that affect on people. They will want to bask in your magnificence rather than pull you down, so take advantage of their needs and proceed without fear. Of course, you won't be interested in them, you will be far too absorbed in whatever you are doing. Nevertheless, if you are offered a position of power -- as a leader, especially one requiring focus and dedication to getting something done -- you should accept the challenge because this year more than any other you are capable of setting a magnificent example and getting things done.

Because of the megalomaniacal tendencies of this age, Mr Lieberman may not be the right man for the delicate job of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict – indeed, he would be more likely to start WW3 at 52, just for the hell of it. However, when he turns 53 in June 2010, he will have lost a lot of his fire and authoritarian tendencies and will become more like a bean-counter, analyzing his accomplishments, balancing the books and taking on a more cooperative profile – ideal traits for a deputy PM or Finance Minister.

At 53, he may be required to put his ego on the line - possibly for his good, but more likely for the good of others. Whether he does it consciously, or unconsciously, he will stand back and let someone else shine, if only for a while. He will be toning down his act, blending in with the crowd, and not making waves. He may seek to mend bridges, reunite with long lost friends and even seek higher public office or promotion. If he does so without his ego being dependent upon the results, then he is likely to be very successful. He will function very well in a team and will work very hard.

53 is an age of learning new things, perfecting your skills and analyzing everything. He will be imperious -- and yet methodical. He will want everything perfect. His ego depends upon perfection at 53, not authority. This combination can be problematic, especially for his health. At 53, he could show workaholic symptoms and burn out. He will need order in his life and, for the good of the whole or the team, he will be quite prepared to sacrifice his ego. When things run smoothly he will be happy.

Bean-counting is a word that seems to suit this age. A child of 5 will line them all up in perfect order by color or size, but a 53 year old may prefer the beans to be coins or ingots of gold in Lieberman’s case! He will actually enjoy simple accounting tasks this year.

Overall, he will derive enormous ego gratification from creating order out of chaos from June 2010 – June 2011 and that bodes very well for Israel, Palestine and the world.
